In the latest installment of Invincible Season 2, a new antagonist named General Kregg has been introduced. To understand who he is and what motives he harbors towards the series protagonist Mark Grayson, proceed with caution as there are significant spoilers for Invincible Season 2 ahead.
Given the abundance of villains in Invincible’s second season, it’s understandable if you’re not familiar with General Kregg, especially with the presence of Angstrom Levy (played by Sterling K. Brown) as the apparent overarching antagonist for Season 2.
The Prime Video superhero series also brings back previously established villains, including the Mauler Twins (portrayed by Kevin Michael Richardson) and the resurgent Lizard League led by King Lizard (Scoot McNairy).
However, as Invincible Season 2 reaches its midpoint, General Kregg emerges as the villain that most fans are likely to focus on, and for good reason. His character presents a significant threat to both Mark and the world at large. To uncover the details of his agenda, read on.
Who is General Kregg in Invincible Season 2?
General Kregg holds a prominent position within the army of the Viltrum Empire and is voiced by the seasoned character actor Clancy Brown. Brown’s previous roles in superhero-themed content include contributions to Superman: The Animated Series, Thor: Ragnarok, The Flash, and Gen V.
Although a significant character in the comics, General Kregg makes his first proper, named appearance in Invincible Season 2 during the mid-season finale titled “It’s Been a While.” In this episode, he makes a belated entrance as the defeated Omni-Man (played by J.K. Simmons) is being taken away for execution.
In a scene where Mark (portrayed by Steven Yeun) is also overcome, Kregg, crouching over him, instructs him to return to Earth and carry on Omni-Man’s mission of conquering the planet. This no-nonsense military figure sternly warns Mark that failure to comply will lead to dire consequences.
Mockingly, Kregg suggests that Mark could resort to killing a few humans to coerce capitulation, or face the prospect of the Viltrum Empire killing millions if they find Earth and its inhabitants still resisting their domination.
What are the Connections of General Kregg in Invincible Season 2?
Judging by his interaction with Mark, General Kregg is evidently accustomed to issuing commands. But how does his rank compare to other Viltrumites featured in Invincible Season 2? Simply put, he holds a superior position – he’s their leader.
This leadership role extends to individuals like Thula, Lucan, and Vidor, who notably defeated Allen the Alien in Episode 3, as well as those who have betrayed the cause, such as Omni-Man. Regardless of whether these individuals directly report to Kregg, he remains their commanding officer.
Interestingly, Kregg perceives himself as Mark’s superior despite the fact that the fledgling superhero is only half-Viltrumite and was raised on Earth. This perception not only grants Kregg the authority to entrust Omni-Man’s mission to Mark but also instills the expectation that Mark will carry it out dutifully.
