Actor Timothée Chalamet unveiled the Game of the Year at the largest game awards event in the video game industry.
The star of Wonka announced that the fantasy RPG Baldur’s Gate 3 had secured the top honor at the ceremony in Los Angeles.
Upon receiving the award, Belgian developer Larian described the epic fantasy RPG, based on Dungeons and Dragons, as a project born out of passion.
The game dominated in the game awards 2023, securing six victories, including best performance, best RPG, and player’s choice.
Introduced by awards host Geoff Keighley as “ModdedController360” – the name of his now-deleted teenage YouTube channel dedicated to customized gaming peripherals – Timothée has previously expressed his enthusiasm for gaming in interviews. Notably, he was photographed during a visit to the renowned Japanese studio of developer Hideo Kojima.
All Game Awards Winners
In total, Baldur’s Gate 3 secured six awards, notably earning best performance for actor Neil Newbon, recognized for his portrayal of the fan-favorite character Astarion.
The survival horror game Alan Wake 2 achieved success by claiming three awards in categories such as best game direction, narrative, and art direction.
Among the noteworthy triumphs were The Last of Us TV series, which clinched the best adaptation award, Cyberpunk 2077 recognized as the best ongoing game, and the puzzle adventure Cocoon winning in the best independent game category.
In other categories, Forza Motorsport was honored with the innovation in accessibility award, and the action-adventure title Tchia was recognized as the Game for Impact winner.
Competing for the Game of the Year title were Super Mario Wonder, Spider-Man 2, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Alan Wake 2, and Resident Evil 4: Remake.
New Reveals at Game Awards 2023
The Game Awards serves as a unique blend of an awards ceremony and a preview event, drawing in many enthusiasts eager for new trailers and announcements of upcoming titles.
During the event, fans were treated to the debut of Exodus, a sci-fi RPG developed by Archetype Entertainment, a studio composed of former Bioware developers.
Renowned video game creator Hideo Kojima revealed his latest project, OD (Overdose), a collaboration with Get Out director Jordan Peele.
Additionally, a remake of the 2013 game Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons was unveiled, accompanied by fresh insights into Hellblade 2: Senua’s Saga and Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth.
Gamers were also granted a sneak peek at Jurassic Park: Survival gameplay and Sega made a notable announcement about resurrecting classic franchises Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio.
