Jujutsu Kaisen Console Game Gets Canceled

The Jujutsu Kaisen console game is scheduled for release on February 1, 2024. Prior to its launch, fans were given a glimpse of Yuji Itadori’s Black Flash in the game. Regrettably, the reveal did not receive the positive reception the developers might have anticipated, as fans expressed their disappointment online.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Clash is an upcoming arena fighter game based on the popular Shueisha manga series, Jujutsu Kaisen. Developed by Byking Inc. and Gemdrops, the game is slated to be published by Bandai Namco Entertainment in 2024.

Fans Disappointed at New Jujutsu Kaisen Console Game Mechanics

Upon witnessing the initial glimpse of Jujutsu Kaisen: Cursed Claw, fans were immediately skeptical about the upcoming Bandai Namco release. They found the trailer and first look unappealing, as it seemed to follow a familiar game mechanic seen in previous titles. Some fans expressed disappointment, noting that certain JJK games on platforms like Roblox showcased superior combat animations compared to the upcoming arena fighter.

Many fans attributed their reservations to the repetitive nature of the game mechanics. They pointed out that these mechanics had been prevalent since the release of Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi and the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm series. They hoped that Bandai Namco Entertainment would acknowledge the need for innovation in 3D arena fighting games, aiming for a standard similar to Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.

A contingent of fans even envisioned an anime game with gameplay mechanics reminiscent of titles like Devil May Cry and God of War. They were disappointed to learn that the game would follow the same formula as many other anime games released by Bandai Namco.

The dissatisfaction primarily centered around Bandai Namco Entertainment, given their prominent role in creating Shounen anime games. While Dragon Ball FighterZ received praise for its distinctiveness, fans believed that if Arc System Works were to develop a Jujutsu Kaisen game, it would likely become a standout success. Some fans took their plea directly to the company, expressing a desire for such a game. However, they were also open to the idea of Arc System Works working on a Chainsaw Man game instead.

One fan, venting their frustration, suggested that Arc System Works hadn’t tackled a JJK game because they were occupied with other projects. They added that Dragon Ball FighterZ’s success was largely attributed to the immense popularity of the franchise, a factor that Jujutsu Kaisen didn’t share to the same extent.
