GTA 6 is at last en route, but what gaming platforms will it grace? To dispel any speculation, Rockstar has solidified its launch strategy.
The much-anticipated GTA 6, revealed on December 4 after substantial leaks, granted us our initial glimpse of the sequel in action, alongside confirmation of its 2025 release timeframe.
Although plans in the gaming industry often undergo shifts—seen through numerous AAA game delays in recent times—the developers seem resolute regarding the game’s release strategy.
Confidence exudes from Rockstar, evident in their affirmation of the platforms slated for GTA 6’s debut. So, without delay, here’s the lineup for experiencing GTA 6 upon its launch.
What GTA 6 Platforms are on at Launch?
GTA 6 Platforms is slated for a launch on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S in 2025, a confirmation swiftly declared by Rockstar through an official press release following the reveal trailer.
However, this affirmation notably omitted any mention of a PC release or support for older-generation hardware, leaving their availability uncertain, at least initially.
This aligns with Rockstar’s customary practice, often prioritizing console release before subsequently porting games to PC. GTA 5, for instance, arrived on PC two years post its initial launch, while Red Dead Redemption 2 followed suit a year after hitting consoles.
Considering the aging status of PS4 and Xbox One consoles by GTA 6’s 2025 release—both consoles being 12 years old—it’s improbable that Rockstar’s new installment will be compatible with outdated hardware. Gamers anticipating support for older platforms might need to consider upgrading for day-one gameplay.
Furthermore, Rockstar has yet to address the potential for GTA 6 on any Nintendo platform. Although the Nintendo Switch remains dated, rumors hint at an imminent upgraded model. Presently, the inclusion of GTA 6 on a Nintendo device remains uncertain.
Thus, this outlines the known platforms for GTA 6’s arrival. As the release date approaches, expect further details on aspects like graphical enhancements, performance targets, and more to surface in the following months.
