Guy Ritchie’s film, The Gentlemen, is set to arrive on Netflix this year. Here’s a roundup of everything we currently know, covering potential release date updates, the cast, plot details, and more.
The Gentlemen marked a notable return to form for Ritchie in 2019, boasting a star-studded cast featuring Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam, Colin Farrell, Hugh Grant, and Henry Golding. The film embraced Ritchie’s signature style, delivering a crime caper laden with colorful language that resonated with audiences and solidified his standing as a renowned filmmaker.
Since then, Ritchie has been involved in projects like Wrath of Man and Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre. Additionally, he is set to direct the live-action remake of Hercules. Notably, he is also crafting a rare follow-up for the small screen.
Ritchie is returning to The Gentlemen universe for a new Netflix series, and here’s what we have gleaned about it so far.
The Gentlemen: Release Date
The debut of The Gentlemen on Netflix is scheduled for March 2024, though a specific release date is currently unspecified.
Guy Ritchie, along with Matthew Read, has collaborated on the script for the pilot and will take on the roles of director for the first two episodes and executive producer.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Ritchie stated, “The world of The Gentlemen is a little bit of me. I’m thrilled that with Netflix, Miramax, and Moonage we have this opportunity to inhabit it once again. We’re looking forward to bringing fans back into that world, introducing new characters and their stories, and I am excited to be doing it with this extremely talented cast.”

The Gentlemen: Plot
The official synopsis for The Gentlemen reveals that Eddie Horniman unexpectedly inherits his father’s substantial country estate, only to discover it is part of a vast cannabis empire. Complicating matters, various unsavory characters from Britain’s criminal underworld express a keen interest in taking a share of the operation.
Determined to free his family from the clutches of these criminals, Eddie endeavors to outsmart the gangsters at their own game. However, as he becomes entangled in the criminal realm, he develops an unexpected taste for it.
The upcoming series is anticipated to continue the narrative as a sequel to the movie rather than revisiting familiar territory, introducing a new character within The Gentlemen’s universe.
In an interview with Empire, Ritchie expressed his creative approach, stating, “You’re allowed to tell a lot of story, [which] lends itself to my creative disposition. A lot of it I just write on the day according to who’s there and what feels organic, spontaneous, and fun. Once you’ve created [the characters], you feel as though you can roll around in them and enjoy them for a bit longer, rather than just wrapping them up tidily in two hours. I like the world of longform, so I think I will be doing a couple of other things in TV.”
Additionally, reports indicate that the new Netflix series will consist of eight episodes in total.
