Sony has officially announced the postponement of the release of its upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusive action-adventure game, Stellar Blade. Initially introduced as Project Eve in 2019, the game was originally in development for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. However, during September 2022’s State of Play, it was rebranded as Stellar Blade, now exclusively for PS5, with an initial release window set for 2023.
Accompanying the name change, a trailer for Stellar Blade was unveiled at the State of Play event, offering a sneak peek into the game’s narrative, visual style, and combat mechanics. The high-energy footage captured the attention of many gamers, drawing comparisons to Nier Automata in terms of its soundtrack and combat dynamics, although the veracity of such parallels remains to be seen. As the year 2023 draws to a close, it has become evident that Stellar Blade will not see a launch this year, though no official statement had been issued on the matter until now.
In a post on PlayStation.Blog outlining upcoming developments for the platform in 2024, the PS5 exclusive Stellar Blade was officially confirmed to be delayed, with a revised release window set for 2024. Unfortunately, a specific launch date remains undisclosed, and the developer, Shift Up, has maintained relative silence about the project in general.
Stellar Blade PS5 Exclusive Officially Delayed
Stellar Blade marks the debut console venture for the Korean developer Shift Up, renowned for its focus on mobile gaming through titles like Destiny Child and Project NIKKE: The Goddess of Victory. One of the co-founders, artist Kim Hung Tae, brings prior expertise from working on games in the RPG series Magna Carta and the MMO Blade & Soul.
Set in the near future, Stellar Blade narrates the tale of Eve, a paratrooper squad member committed to reclaiming Earth from the grip of invaders known as NA:tives. The world, now post-apocalyptic and desolate, is overrun by an array of peculiar creatures, compelling Eve to confront them in her quest to unveil a potential secret that could aid in overcoming Earth’s conquerors.
The game is optimized for the PS5, leveraging its capabilities in graphics and the haptic feedback features of the DualSense controller. The latter is particularly highlighted in Eve’s diverse arsenal, where the technology takes center stage during combat. Through adept parrying and evasion in battle, the Beta Gauge gradually accumulates, enabling Eve to activate various abilities such as penetrating enemy armor or disrupting their combos. Similarly, successful execution of combos fills the Burst Gauge, facilitating the application of buffs or unleashing potent attacks.
