PlayStation 5 Pro Expected Release Date

A prominent insider in the gaming industry has offered insights into the potential release timeframe of the PlayStation Pro and discussed recent speculation surrounding the console.

The prediction suggests that the announcement for the PlayStation 5 Pro might occur towards the latter part of the third quarter of 2024, following closely on the heels of leaked specifications that surfaced recently. These leaks hinted at a more conservative mid-generation hardware upgrade for Sony’s ninth-generation console, contrasting with the substantial improvements introduced by the PS4 Pro in late 2016.

Despite rumored similarities in internal components with the PS5, reports from Jeff Grubb at Giant Bomb indicate that the PlayStation 5 Pro is expected to support in-house upscaling technology reminiscent of Nvidia’s DLSS. This software-based solution is anticipated to enable the upcoming console to maximize its hardware capabilities well beyond what the base PS5 model can achieve. Subsequent to this report, speculations have emerged among fans on social media platforms, suggesting the possibility of Sony unveiling the PlayStation 5 Pro during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024, scheduled from January 9 to January 12.

Renowned industry insider Tom Henderson has expressed a different perspective on this matter, sharing his views in a recent update on social media. On January 4, via Twitter, Henderson expressed skepticism about Sony unveiling the PlayStation 5 Pro at the January event, provided there haven’t been changes in the company’s release strategy for the console. Henderson previously disclosed that the gaming giant is eyeing a release for the PS5 Pro in the holiday season of 2024.

Expanding on this standpoint in a subsequent tweet, the insider elaborated that he strongly questions Sony’s potential move to disrupt almost “10 months of regular PS5 sales” by introducing the Pro model at CES 2024. Consequently, he leans more towards the belief that an announcement for the PlayStation 5 Pro might occur towards the end of the third quarter.

Henderson isn’t the sole insider endorsing the notion that the highly rumored console is slated for a market launch in the 2024 holiday season. Earlier, a report surfaced online during the summer, indicating a November 2024 release for the PS5 Pro, and suggesting the internal codename for the gaming device as Trinity.

Sony’s involvement in the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) has been confirmed by the company, with its CES 2024 conference set to occur on January 8, starting at 5 pm PT. A recent update on the Sony Square website hinted at the theme for CES 2024, emphasizing “powering creativity with technology.” This theme strongly suggests that Sony’s showcase during the event may include new camera models, lenses, and other products aligning with this technological creativity agenda.
