New PS5 Dinosaur FPS Game Son and Bone Revealed

PlayStation has revealed a new exclusive title for the PS5, titled “Son and Bone,” set in a prehistoric environment where players engage in fast-paced combat against dinosaurs.

Unveiling a PlayStation 5 exclusive, Sony introduces “Son and Bone,” an action-packed first-person shooter game that follows an American sheriff transported to an alternate world, where survival hinges on battling dinosaurs. The game, slated for release in 2024, will be exclusively available on the PlayStation 5, although an exact release date is yet to be specified.

The gaming community consistently shows a keen interest in dinosaur-themed games. While several popular titles already exist, Son and Bone’s trailer introduces a distinctive approach. Unlike many prevalent dinosaur games that fall into survival or simulation genres, there is a noticeable scarcity of action-adventure first-person shooter games set in a prehistoric era. TeamKill Media, the developers behind Son and Bone, appear to address this gap in the gaming landscape.

PlayStation has unveiled the gameplay trailer for Son and Bone, showcasing two minutes of intense action as players combat a variety of dinosaurs. The game’s narrative revolves around Sheriff Sam Judge, who embarks on a quest for justice after notorious bandits attack a local farm in Patchwork, MT, taking hostages. However, the story takes an unexpected turn, transporting Sam to another world teeming with prehistoric creatures and dinosaurs. To survive and return to Earth, Sam must now battle these ancient foes. The trailer not only features realistic dinosaurs but also introduces humanoid creatures, indicating a departure from strict realism. Players can expect fast-paced, gory combat employing a diverse array of weapons.

TeamKill Media, the developers behind the game, previously released Quantum Error in 2023, a cosmic horror title that received a lukewarm reception with a MetaCritic score of 40. With Son and Bone, the American studio aims for a rebound, and the promising trailer suggests a potential turnaround.

While Quantum Error was initially intended as a PlayStation exclusive before later including Xbox and PC, Son and Bone seems set to remain a PS5 exclusive. This game represents a significant deviation from other popular dinosaur-themed titles like Ark: Survival Evolved and Path of Titans. Unlike the latter, an MMO where players control a dinosaur through various life stages, Son and Bone offers a more fast-paced experience, appealing to fans of the prehistoric era with a taste for swift, action-oriented gameplay.
