The controversy surrounding Jujutsu Kaisen Animators and MAPPA continues to escalate as online users assert that numerous animators working on Jujutsu Kaisen are resigning from the studio. However, is there any validity to these claims?
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 finds itself amidst a significant controversy involving MAPPA, known for its notorious working conditions, which have reportedly worsened in recent years. The year 2023 has witnessed the release of some of MAPPA’s notable series, including Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, the final episode of Attack on Titan, Hell’s Paradise, and more.
Jujutsu Kaisen, in particular, garnered immense popularity even before its debut, thanks to its fresh art style that resonated with fans. The anime is adapting two highly acclaimed manga arcs. However, concerns have been raised about the studio overburdening animators, prompting some to speak out against the issue.
Despite some animators deleting their posts subsequently, the community has taken note of the problem. Various online users are asserting that animators working on Jujutsu Kaisen are leaving MAPPA during the production of Season 2, but the question remains: is this information accurate?
Are Jujutsu Kaisen Animators Quitting MAPPA Amid Season 2 Production?
Despite numerous rumors circulating on social media, animators working on Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 are not planning to quit amid the ongoing production. However, there remains uncertainty about whether they would be willing to return to MAPPA if better working conditions are not provided.
Vincent Chansard, a highly acclaimed animator in the industry, has definitively stated that he will not collaborate with MAPPA again. He expressed his sentiments on Twitter/X, stating, “2 years ago, I said I would never work for MAPPA again. Hakuyu Go-san was the only one who made me reconsider, but this was the last time. Will see if I get permission to post Genga. Here are some photos I took when I was working on the cut of Mahoraga in the pool.”
Vincent is a key animator known for his contributions to several iconic episodes of One Piece in the Wano Saga, including the debut of Gear 5 and Zoro vs King. He has also worked on One Piece Film: Red and the Boruto anime. While Vincent was part of the animators for Season 2 Episode 17, he joined as a guest animator and was not part of the main team.
The majority of animators involved in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 are freelancers who have entered into contracts with MAPPA. Hence, it is unlikely that they will breach their contracts and leave the team. Animator RocciaNobili shared, “Punching Mahito is so satisfying…” indicating that scenes for upcoming episodes are still in production.
Regarding the rumors about Jujutsu Kaisen animators quitting MAPPA, various statements have been circulated without credible sources to substantiate their accuracy.
