Tectone Slams Zenless Zone Zero’s Male Lead: ‘The Game’s Biggest Misstep

Tectone, renowned for his insights into Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, recently aired his thoughts on the closed beta of Zenless Zone Zero. While the streamer praised certain aspects of the game, he had harsh criticism for the male protagonist, labeling him as the ‘worst’ character in the upcoming title.

In his YouTube video, “My Brutally Honest Thoughts on Zenless Zone Zero,” spanning 18 minutes, Tectone didn’t mince words about his disappointment with the male main character. He expressed disdain, stating, “I honestly think he is the worst character in the game, and unfortunately, he’s the main character.” His critique focused on the character’s design, calling it ‘boring’ and lacking emotion, ultimately deeming him ‘stupid’ and unengaging.

Conversely, Tectone lauded the female main character’s design, admiring her charisma, humor, and appearance. He contrasted her favorably against the male lead, likening him to a subpar version of another HoYoverse title’s main character. The streamer emphasized that given the centrality of the male MC, his unimpressive design posed a significant concern for player engagement.

While critical of the protagonist’s design, Tectone acknowledged positive aspects of Zenless Zone Zero. He commended the game’s character animations, visually stunning overworld, and engaging combat mechanics. However, he highlighted frustrations with prolonged non-combat segments, drawing parallels with Genshin Impact’s exploration-heavy gameplay.
