Call of Duty MW3 Surpasses Engagement Metric

Call of Duty’s Modern Warfare 3 has taken the reins as the standout in the MW reboot trilogy, smashing records for player engagement within its initial weeks, despite mixed reviews. The latest installment faced criticism for its slim single-player campaign and reused content, resulting in lower ratings compared to its franchise counterparts. However, Activision’s recent revelation sheds light on the game’s staggering player involvement, with users dedicating significant hours during the crucial early release period.

Call of Duty MW3 Engagement Metrics

While MW3 faced backlash for its story mode and content, the game managed to surpass its predecessors in terms of player engagement. Activision’s data suggests that MW3 attracted higher average playtime per player in its initial fortnight compared to the earlier games in the reboot trilogy. Even with criticism, the campaign in MW3 accumulated more overall gameplay hours than its predecessors, hinting at a robust player base despite the discontent.

Silence on Sales Performance

Yet, amid these engagement metrics, there’s a telling silence about MW3 outselling its immediate precursor, MW2. The absence of this achievement in Activision’s update implies that MW3 possibly fell short of surpassing the sales of its forerunner. Reports even suggest that the game’s launch week sales in the UK were around 25% lower than MW2’s, despite a stronger start compared to its reviews.

MW3 A Great Predecessor

However, the daunting task of outselling its predecessor, especially MW2, regardless of critical acclaim, seems insurmountable. MW2 had set a staggering benchmark, becoming the first title in the franchise to hit $1 billion in sales within just ten days, five days faster than its predecessor, Black Ops 2, a record unchallenged for a decade.

Activision’s engagement insights about the newest Call of Duty entry were also accompanied by an official confirmation that the Modern Warfare 3 Season 1 will kick off on December 6. The date itself shouldn’t come as a surprise to the fandom, having already been rumored for weeks at this point.
