The Shonen fantasy anime series Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has surprisingly surpassed Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood in ratings on MyAnimeList, claiming the top spot.
The anime adaptation of Frieren premiered in September 2023, treating viewers to an impressive eleven episodes in its inaugural season. Despite being in its early stages, the series has gained significant popularity, posing a formidable challenge to the long-standing dominance of “Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood” (FMAB) on MyAnimeList.
Known for its substantial fanbase, FMAB has held the top spot on MAL for several years. While other anime series have previously displaced FMAB temporarily, “Brotherhood” has consistently reclaimed the leading position. This time, Frieren has emerged as a contender, and fans are eagerly anticipating how long the new anime will maintain its current position against the might of Brotherhood.
Frieren Takes The First Spot On MyAnimeList
On the MAL Top Anime page, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has secured the first position with an impressive rating of 9.10, displacing “Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood” (FMAB) to the second spot.
Prior to Frieren, other noteworthy shows such as Oshi No Ko, Attack on Titan, My Happy Marriage, and several others temporarily surpassed the popular series. It’s noteworthy that even though “Frieren” has claimed the top spot on the platform, FMAB still maintains the second position with an identical rating of 9.10.
Frieren: Beyond the Journey’s End follows the story of Frieren, an elven mage who was once part of a hero’s party. Together, they defeated the demon king. However, upon her return after years of journeying, she discovers her former companions have aged, and some have even passed away. Realizing her mistake in taking her companions for granted, she seeks to build new relationships with humans and be there for them.
The anime has elicited mixed reactions from fans. While some are delighted to see it in the top position, others express disappointment. Additionally, a significant portion of the fandom believes that FMAB is likely to reclaim its first position on MAL in the near future.
